Rocking Your World Friday ~ Sophie

It's Friday again, time to think about this weeks positives. It's not been too bad a week at all :)

We got a night away and saw 'The Stranglers.' I'm not a massive fan but it was a good night and 'The Godfathers' supporting them were great too.  It was nice to get away despite it being freezing! We had some good food, a few drinks and just relaxed.  Also, we experienced a random act of kindness from an old friend who really understands how important these breaks are for us.
Cheers to him!

We went to another concert, midweek. Again not one of my top bands but one of Andy's favourites, 'Stiff Little Fingers'.  I've seen them with him before and they are really good live.  They were supported by 'Ed Tudor Pole' who was very entertaining.  Big thanks to the 2 carers that stayed up late in addition to working both days with our lads, enabling us to go.

The starling murmuration.  I posted about this a while back.  Well it's still here and now about 30 times the size it was then and they are coming right over our garden.  I took lots of photos the other day but they just don't capture the magnificence.  Here is the best of a bad lot...

Being good and sticking to 2 cups of coffee a day.  I'm trying to get off it completely, it really doesn't agree with me and I feel better for cutting it back....BUT....my sons autism means they have major sleep disturbances which have gone on for many years and I have got into bad habits with drinking it to stay awake.  I drink this 'Women's Energy' herbal tea quite a lot as a replacement.  It's not quite the same but it tastes nice!

Yesterday I was sent a photograph of a friends finished knitted baby blanket.  This is rocking my week because I helped her get started and passed on a few techniques and she has done an amazing job with it.

Sitting down in the day time watching the film 'Red'.  We were tired after going out on a 'school night'! It was excellent.

Lemon cake.  Gaby is working hard on her school baking project most weekends and I'm making the huge sacrifice of trying out her cakes for her.  This one was perfect.

Gaby's recipes are in her blog

Rocking Your World Friday ~ Sophie

I haven't done this for ages and probably should have but hey! Here's a few things that have made the past few weeks a bit better...

Mother's Day cards and flowers.

Going to see 'Beautiful Creatures' with Andy and Gaby. I love a bit of teenage witchiness and as Gaby has just turned 13, I have a great excuse to see films like this. We all enjoyed it.

Coffees and lunches with friends.

Starting at the gym. I am totally intimidated by gyms. I belong to one but only really joined because of the yoga classes they offer. I haven't been feeling at my fittest and this week I felt like I wanted to start doing something a bit more active. I tagged along with Andy and did 25 mins on the cross trainer. I was all pleased with myself until I realised I was on level 1 and he was on level 14!! It's a start though and I enjoyed it which surprised me.

The King Blues, 'Punk and Poetry'.  An album that I love and always makes me feel upbeat.

Really angelic behaviour from my boys last weekend.

Listening to Jackie Kay reading her book, 'Red Dust Road'. I joined the Womankind Worldwide Book Group on Goodreads and this was the chosen book for International Women's Day. I'm really enjoying it and would highly recommend the audio version as it really makes it having Jackie reading it herself.

My mum turning up with cake. Not much left now.....

....coffee and walnut cake. Yum :)

Gaby's baking....

More yum!

Rocking Your World Friday ~ Sophie

It's been a bit of a frustrating week here, what with snow and illnesses so I'm having to think hard today! What are the positives this week....?

A lovely afternoon watching The Hobbit with my mum and Gaby.

Living directly opposite a supermarket. I do hanker after having a little country cottage but on weeks like this, living in a town centre does not seem like such a bad idea.

Comedy.  Things can get a bit intense here at times, caring for 2 autistic children.  I like to watch something funny to lighten things up a bit.  This week it's been 'Mrs Brown's Boys' and 'Wanderlust' that have had me laughing out loud :)

The Levellers.  These guys have been rocking my world in their own folky punk way most weeks for a long long time, 20 + years!  One of our boys is particularly fond of their music at the moment, so I can get 5 minutes peace with that playing in the kitchen.  Definitely something to be grateful for when stuck inside with restless children! I love that our whole family loves their music too.

My cat, Sasha.  This time last year, Sasha had a broken leg and we were being told that she needed £1000+ worth of treatment and operations which we could not afford.  Thankfully that turned out not to be the case and after 4 months of cage rest and her leg in casts, she recovered.  The rest of my family are not that bothered about her but she is truly my cat (we have 3) and is just one of those pets that 'knows' when you are ill or down.  Here she is on my lap this week :)

Snow - it's pretty and I get to wear wellies :)

The Ford Dagenham Women who's strike led to equal pay for women. We watched 'Made in Dagenham' at the weekend, those women are definitely rocking my world this week.

My new ceramic travel mug.  I have to get to my son's school quite early to get parked (this is related to their autism and behaviour and not just because I'm too lazy to walk)!  As a result, I have 20-30 mins wait every day.  I don't mind this as it gives me a little time each day to sit still and read, however, on weeks like this it can get quite cold.  A nice hot coffee warms me up and it tastes so much better out of this mug than the metal one I had before.

House plants.  Living circumstances have kind of dictated that we haven't had any house plants for 7-8 years.  Prior to this (the arrival of children basically) I had rather a lot and I've missed them.  The changes we've made in our house this year mean that we now have windowsills and shelves near light so I now at least have some plants in the kitchen.

Crow Pose.  I did this for the first time today.  I always think I'm going to fall on my face.  Something made me just give it a random go this morning and it worked. Twice.  I have tried several times since and now nothing.  At least I know I can do it!

Comfort food.  Pies, mashed potato, plum crumble and custard, yum :)

That's it....a quiet January week here!

Rocking Your World Friday ~ Sophie

I'm joining in with this lovely link up today with Celtic House, discovered through the Artful Readers Club challenge.

Firstly it has got to be my lovely husband who has dealt with a lot of night disturbance from our boys this week.

A beautiful early morning sunrise.

Stargazing live.  We've thoroughly enjoyed the TV show but also went to the local event, which despite cloudy skies was great. We particularly enjoyed the talk on comets by Nick Howes.

Some dry days for getting out with the dog and doing a bit of treegazing.

Rainbow plates arriving in the post :)

Charity shops. Today I bought 3 tops and a bookcase. The tops are great, the bookcase needs a little attention but it's size was the important thing. I plan on revarnishing it with a black stain to match the other bits in Gaby's new room.

Yoga and pilates. I'm a yoga regular but decided to try pilates in addition this week. I liked it....who new?!
