Blogalong Day 5

Today has been about...,

Time in my garden.

Finishing Effy's 'Artful Shamanism' Lifebook lesson.

Visit and Italian meal out with family and receiving this beautiful dog bowl as a gift from a family member who does not like pets. I like it but am a bit bemused!?

Ending my day with a cup of tea, a lovely view of the stars and a lapful of cats.

Lifebook Catchup - Blogalong Day 4

I don't do 'everything happens for a reason' , I'm more of a 'shit happens' type person. BUT! I love that some quite difficult times, plans not turning out quite as planned seem to have led here, to randomly discovering Lifebook at just the right time and learning to do art again.

Here's some of my recent lessons, in no particular order....

Blogalong Day 3

I seem to be spending a lot more time reading at the moment. I still have many books on the go at once, it's just how I am. I went through a phase of being really down on myself for this but I'm very over that now because, thanks to listing them on goodreads, I realised I do actually finish them! There is no problem! I am the same with craft projects, artwork etc and I'm embracing it :)

So, I will probably soon start on one of these books that got added to the 'to read' pile after a wander around the local charity shops earlier this week whilst carrying on with what is on my kindle and trying to keep up with the Artful Readers Club!

Blogalong Day 2

Today is our day off. My boys are at their respite care unit for the day and I'm sat here having a quiet cup of coffee with paint all over my hands. Unfortunately not the creative type! I've spent the afternoon damp-sealing the conservatory in preparation for painting it.

I have so much decorating to get done that I have written out a list which breaks it into small tasks in the hope that it will be a little less overwhelming! I feel like with the extra days off we are getting, I might finally get to grips with it.

Gaby went off to the flower show with my mum while I was making these plans. They both entered some of the creative categories and both got second places :) Gaby's entry was for the celebrity cupcake class. She chose Gerard Way, and came up with these....

I think they're fab and they taste good too :-)

Blogalong With Effy

I'm going to try and join in with Effy Wild's challenge to blog every day throughout August. It's school holidays and things are pretty full on for us (2 of my 3 children have severe and non-verbal autism), so I will probably miss a few days here and there amid the chaos! I blog here mainly for me, as a reminder that I can and do do other things alongside caring. Usually, art, knitting, reading etc.  It seems like a good idea to make a point of checking in here through this month.

Today has actually been quiet and uneventful which is good :) I finished reading 'Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof That You Can Heal Yourself' by Lissa Rankin. It makes a lot of sense and I  need to take note! Yoga classes booked for next week is a start. I think I'd like to try reflexology again too because I'm feeling all my stress in my feet!

Well I tried all of yesterday evening to post this and it just wouldn't publish so I am a day behind already!

Catching Up!

It is too hot for knitting at the moment! It's been too hot for anything much. Thankfully last night we had an amazing thunder storm. A few weeks ago we had some chippings put down under our trampoline. This is the first time we've had rain since and the children are out playing this morning when previously it would have been a mud bath. It's going to make life a lot easier :)

The half term leading up to summer is always busy for me as I am trying to organise care and activities for the children,  go to events at school - the boys were fantastic participating in their school production this year  - and generally trying to sort stuff out before the 6 week break. So not much arty crafty time! We have managed a night away and a bit of gardening and reading...

We've seen Alabama 3 in Bristol but I seemed to only take photos of food and drink!

Oh, there was this crafty table number I liked too!

My garden is looking quite good. I was so fed up after last years weather and having to give up the allotment idea that I wasn't going to bother! Then the weather got better and so did my attitude! I've planted my seeds later than ideal as it's quite a shady space but things seem to be doing ok so far.

I listened to 'Various Pets, Alive And Dead' by Marina Lewycka. I enjoyed this. It's the first book I've read by this author and I noticed the reviews were not as good as some of her others but I really liked it. It follows grown up children of lefty parents and a feminist who became a carer for her adopted daughter with Down Sydrome.  Themes I can relate to!

I'm still stargazing and got this glimpse of the moon on Sunday night..,

Finally, I got new glasses. I've been putting this off but I'm pleased with  them ....
